about Eastern Cottonmouth Snakes
This is a picture of an Eastern Cottonmouth
Eastern Cottonmouth snakes are one of three types of venomous snakes found in Virginia. They are named for the white color of their mouths, which they will open wide when standing their ground. They range in color between brown, black and olive, with dark bands on their bodies. This snake is an adept swimmer and can often be found basking on a rock or log in the water. Eastern Cottonmouths have been known to strike repeatedly when disturbed.
